The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Monday, October 15th, 2007 by Des

Sigh… Another weekend over. I’ve only been working at Infra for a week, but the old wage-slave routine has set in again. Ah well, better the devil you know eh?

image This weekend, I managed to have a look at the pilot episode of The Sarah Connor Chronicles, a TV show starting in January 2008. It’s based on the happenings in the Terminator movie series, and is set sometime after the events of Terminator 2. Apparently for all intents and purposes, Terminator 3 is assumed never to happen. Or I suppose more accurately, is assumed never to going to happen. Or possibly not going to happen, depending.

Looks like they’ve been given a pretty decent budget to play with, and most awesome of all, it also features Summer Glau from Firefly/Serenity - as The Good Terminator. Certainly easier on the eye than Big Arnie (though to be fair, he IS looking pretty good for a 95-year-old politician).

Time will tell (this is of course a clumsily introduced pun due to the fact that time travel plays a not insignificant part in the series) if it turns out to be any good, but the pilot is promising.

And the baby’s name is…..

imageTonight, I had reason to locate a picture of a character in the Simpsons. So what, you might say. I like to think I know a fair bit about the show, despite not watching many of the new episodes in the last 2-3 years. But I hadn’t the faintest idea what this character’s name was.

The one I was after was Maggie Simpson’s arch-nemesis, the baby with one eyebrow (see pic on left, if that hasn’t already jogged your memory!!!) I couldn’t for the life of me remember if they ever mentioned his name. After a google search or three, I can happily report that the name was quite easy to find after all, and it is Gerald. So now you too can rest easy.

Reality TV

I’ve been neglecting my television watching a bit lately.. So in between bouts of Holiday Packing, I watched bits of The Bachelor. It is well seedy.

These people cannot be serious, can they? It’s actually interesting comparing the “reality” shows from the US and the UK. The poms are much more down to earth and less shiny. They usually think the whole thing’s a bit of a laugh really, unlike the Americans, who tend to take things more seriously.

Speaking of the Brits, the next show up was the delightfully cringe-inducing Wife Swap. In a nutshell: Two families swap wives for 2 weeks. Ensure that the worst matches possible are made. Make sure that both families have at least one member with severe attitude problems. The wives have to live by the rules of the household for the first week, and then are allowed to make changes themselves in the second week.

Et Voila! Entertaining TV.

Complete trash, but I loved every minute of it.

In other news… the trailer for Eurotrip, the latest flick off the teen road movie conveyor belt. Highly recommended if you desperately need to see Michelle Trachtenberg in a bikini.
